Common names: Greater (rosy) periwinkle, bigleaf periwinkle.Shrub that grows to 12"" tall with trailing ascending stems; 1-3 feet long. The leaves are dark green and bigger than that of vinca minor. It has solitary violet flowers at the end of the stem. This ornamental plant is fast growing and flowers April through frost. The greater periwinkle is an evergreen, creeping plant with long trailing or arching stems. The flowers are carried in the short, ascending stems. It flowers from April through frost. The flowers are violet, leaves are shiny, bright-green and broad with a blunt base with hairy margins. Thrives in shady and damp areas. Usually sold as an annual in zones 3-5 otherwise perennial.

The Stachys ‘Big Ears Lamb’s Ear’, Stachys byzantina 'Helen von Stein', is known for its soft, fuzzy, silvery green foliage. With spikes of purplish pink small flowers, it has a wonderful effect on any garden. ‘Big Ears Lamb’s Ear’ is a little bit larger than the average Lamb’s Ear, with a plant height of 10” and a spread of 18-24” and blooms in mid-summer. (Lamb’s Ear is not known for its flowering, but however its foliage.) The Lamium ‘Beacon Silver’, Lamium maculatum, has beautiful oval, gray-green to silvery-white leaves with greenish margins. The short spiked clear, pale pink flowers make it a wonderful ground cover. With a plant height of 6” and a spread of 12-24”, Lamium ‘Beacon Silver’ blooms from May to July. ‘Beacon Silver’ will grow best in full sun, but will tolerate some afternoon shade in a moist area. Plant in a well-drained soil and do not allow it to dry out. Use Lamium in hanging baskets, in mixed containers, trailing over walls or as an edger, but spread must be controlled. ‘Beacon Silver’ looks great among Hostas, Ferns, Lungworts (Pulmonaria), bulbs and wildflowers.
