Buying A Toilet - Things to Consider
A toilet is something you probably never gave much thought to, but I know it is the one thing in your home you can't do without. A little research is needed before you run to the corner store and buy a toilet that you may wind up being very unhappy with. Your old toilet probably used the gravity flush system where the natural force of the water coming in from the tank creates the flushing action. When manufacturers were forced to cut down on the amount of water used, it created a problem. They had to make the water hole at the bottom of the tank larger to let water through faster, some also made the trapways larger and glazed or coated them to reduce the friction. Having to use less water meant having to invent new designs for toilet flushing. Pressure assisted flush systems are available that use air pressure to push the water through with more force. These systems are noisy and tend to require more and expensive maintenance. Dual flush systems that allow you to use less water when you only have liquid waste to flush are also available Manufacturers are coming up with new ways to make the gravity systems work better, you will probably want to visit their web sites for more details before you make your final choice. Be aware that most toilets are sold without a seat, strange but true. Be sure you order a new seat for your new toilet. In the reviews I have read the TOTO Drake seems to be a favorite of consumers. The Drake uses the G-Max™ flushing system which has a 3" flush valve, 2-1/8" glazed trapway and an extra large siphon jet to pull away waste. Click to check prices on the Drake.
